Background Link: Innocent Sin | Jun
Personality: On the outside, Jun is a timid and shy boy. He grew up with a dismal family life (a father who committed suicide and a mother who didn't seem to care about him), and was bullied at school by other kids because of his effeminate attitude and interests(as he had a very vested interest in flower language and horoscopes). Because of this and among other reasons, he grew up with little self-esteem or self-worth, and doesn't have much confidence in himself-- aided by the fact that he was ashamed of his real father due to the bad things his mother said. Because of an incident where he lost his only friends and big sister figure, he grew up resentful and alone (bolstered by the fact that a demigod named Nyarlathotep corrupted his memories of the traumatic incident to remove Jun's own involvement and shift the blame to his best friend, even though he was partly to blame.) Though he isn't one to pick fights, he obtained a reputation as a trouble maker and was forced to transfer schools when his Persona manifested and nearly killed some students that were bullying him. The result of all of this left him introverted and antisocial with a cold exterior, unwilling to make new friends and still and opting to keep to himself, still with a festering bit of resentment. He didn't shy away from fights either, whether verbal or physical-- he's perfectly capable of taking care of himself in both cases, but for the most part would rather not deal with it.
In reality, that's only half true; he IS introverted, though in reality he is actually quite warm and friendly, and not really that shy. He's simply cautious and internalized, but he's unashamed of and passionate about a lot of things in his life (he can get really excited when talking about things he likes). He's highly protective of those he's close to, making a promise to protect his "Big Sister," and swearing revenge years after the incident when he still believed her to be dead. When he gets to know someone, he's much more friendly and open, and though he's bad at making friends, enjoys spending time with other people. He's by no means a prude or a kill-joy, and can be very cheerful and affectionate if he feels comfortable enough in the people around him, happily telling them their horoscopes, giving praise and making jokes-- although it takes a bit to get him to feel comfortable enough around people.
Despite his upbringing, he cares deeply about those around him (even strangers he's at least concerned about their safety) and is idealistic to a fault, firmly believing in the power of peoples' dreams and encouraging them, wishing he could do more to help peoples' wishes come true. He was granted this power by Nyarlathotep, which drove him to become Joker-- who was rumored to grant your dream when you called him. At the time, a part of him truly believed this to be a good thing, even if many people were turned into Shadow Men. Although his intentions are often good and well-meaning, his passion and determination interfere and lead to him eagerly taking some rather questionable and extreme methods to achieve those goals. This kind of naivete makes him easily manipulated if he's offered such an opportunity to help people.
He's absolutely terrified of being forgotten and brushed aside, and doesn't like being ignored either; a complex fueled by his childhood friends forgetting him and his mother wanting nothing to do with him. He's scared of his mother, and because of her treatment believes that he's a useless child that she wanted him to disappear-- disappearing being another deep-rooted fear because of it. His desire to not be useless spurs on his extremism in his protectiveness and idealism to help people however he can, even if the means are questionable and dangerous. Jun is incredibly mopey and pessimistic, largely self-deprecating and secretly blaming himself for most--if not all--of the harm that happens throughout the game. Even when he gets close to someone, it's hard for him to come out with these feelings of guilt and resentment, and so chooses to internalize them instead, especially since the last time he didn't blame himself for something that was his fault, the Joker happened.
For his age and reputation, Jun's remarkably intelligent; he spent most of his childhood reading and learning, and is well-versed in math, physics, the language of flowers, astrology (two of his favorites), astronomy, literature, music, and has even invented things in his spare time. Aside from academics, he can be careful and calculating as well, knowing how to manipulate people (and demons!) with his charm and appearances and generally being able to think up effective plans. For all of his intelligence, he can be a bit spacey and out of touch with reality, perhaps in part due to his antisocial nature; he doesn't really care about the fact that he attends a school for delinquents as long as he doesn't get bullied (which people have stopped, seeing as he not only stopped attending school but also was rumored to be able to summon a gorramn monster), and prioritizes his friends and ideals over classes and his own reputation in society. He's not lacking in drive and goals; in fact, he has dreams of his own, but is simply a bit out of it in regards to the exact path to take. In addition to that, he's a bit of an escapist, trying to avoid his real problems and instead going overboard into avoiding them(to the point of lying about who his real dad was when his father was in fact still alive when he was a child). Again, he's well-meaning, but out of touch. Without a doubt, he's a dreamer, often stuck with his head in the clouds despite his practical knowledge and love of learning.
Jun is a bit sentimental and dramatic, making promises and safe-guarding important objects, and will often express himself through little things like that (especially flowers, though few people actually understand the meanings behind them). This has a double-edged sword to it however, as while he's determined to never forget the good things, that includes the bad. He can hold a grudge for years on end, as well as a desire for revenge. He's easily prone to nostalgia and wistfulness, which may be why he gets so mopey easily, as he has a tendency to dwell on the past and on problems and mistakes that he can't exactly fix any more.
Abilities: Like the other members of Persona 2, Jun is able to summon a persona; a manifestation of his psyche that, like those of the Wild Card ability, can take on a variety of forms. He received his initial persona from Philemon by playing the Persona Game with his friends, though this ability was corrupted by Nyarlathotep when he became Joker, and was subsequently taken away (along with his Joker powers). He was given a new persona by Yukino Mayuzumi, allowing him to utilize his real persona, Hermes, and Yukino's primary persona Durga as well, which specializes in lightning, fire and physical skills. His own primary persona later transformed into Chronos, the primordial deity of Time, and specializes in wind and healing skills. It gives him a sizable defense and resistance against magic (and some healing abilities to boot), but also leaves him vulnerable to earth magic. He has access to a variety of other personas as well, which are stored on cards he keeps on his person and can be swapped in at any time. However, he meshes best with personas of the Magician, Hanged Man, World and Fortune Arcana (Fortune being his own Arcana), though primarily sticks to Chronos. He requires no aid to summon it like other persona-users, and just requires sheer force of will.
Aside from his persona, Jun is also capable of physical combat, by fighting with and throwing flowers. Yes flowers. They do pretty sizable thrown damage too, especially since he has the LEGENDARY FLOWER, but he prefers to use his Persona in combat if at all possible. Due to his lanky body structure, his constitution's a bit more fickle when it comes to taking a physical hit, even with Chronos' help. If he can avoid fighting, he's also able to contact and negotiate with demons, attempting to win them over by telling their horoscope, talking about dreams, offering flowers, or
